For the most ideal blending results your hair should be at least chin length with a feathered cut on the ends.  Blunt cuts are the hardest type of cut to integrate with hair extensions, the more wispy and feathered the ends of your hair the better.  As a general rule the minimum length your hair should be is 4 inches long from the crown area and at least 2 inches long in the lower sections, in order to effectively hide the bond attachments.  There are always exceptions to the rule and it all depends on the individual so you can still come in for a free consultation and find out if you are unsure.  If you are not ready yet perhaps you will be in the very near future. In these circumstances we can work with you and stay in touch to monitor your hair growth until it is sufficient to blend well enough with hair extensions.

Permanent hair extensions are a cosmetic option that millions of women worldwide use to enhance their natural hair.  Damage should not occur as long as the extensions are:

  • the correct type of extension system based on your hair type & lifestyle requirements

  • skillfully & carefully applied by a qualified technician experienced in the type of extension application you are receiving

  • maintained and cared for as advised in your aftercare documentation and as advised by your qualified hair extension technician

  • and last but certainly not least, always removed professionally.  This means removed at the correct recommended time point and only by a hair extension technician who is qualified, insured & experienced in the method of extension you are having removed.

Most people prefer to have their extensions reapplied immediately after they are removed,  if your hair extensions match all the factors listed in FAQ Number 3 above then it shouldn't be necessary to take a break between fittings.

Appropriate hair extensions for your hair type that are correctly applied should never cause you pain.  If you are in any pain then consult your hair extension technician immediately for advice to rectify the problem.  If you have a particularly sensitive scalp then you may feel discomfort in the first week and a general awareness of their presence. You will be especially aware of them in the beginning when resting on them to sleep. This awareness of them is entirely natural considering you suddenly have extra hair - the sensation of awareness should gradually dissipate over the first few weeks once you adjust to them.  Not only does this feeling go away - your extensions typically start to feel normal and a part of you - you will very likely feel odd when they are removed - as if something is now missing!

You should be aware that hair extensions aren't for every one, there will always be exceptions, as a rare small percentage of people have extremely sensitive scalps and may not be suited to them.  Test strands are always recommended during your consultation appointment to try to help ensure your compatibility prior to fitting.

A great number of women with fine hair choose to wear hair extensions to boost their hair for volume alone as well as volume & length.  Alongside our traditional hair extension services - we offer specialist services for fine hair utilising techniques and technologies designed to cater for finer and heat sensitive hair.  See the Our Hair Extensions >> Application Methods page for details on the ways we accommodate the special requirements of fine hair.  All of the application methods we use do not use heat to apply, making them suitable for heat sensitive hair.

Fitting times vary depending on the hair coverage type you require and also the method being fitted.  The approx' fitting times for each method are listed on our page titled Our Hair Extensions >> Hair Coverage Options

With the correct aftercare your extensions should last for the following times:

Ultrasonic Cold Fusion Method: A maximum of 3 months wear time per application.  Tape Method: Up to 3 months wear time per application.

It is vitally important you do not try to extend the wear time passed the specified dates.  Based on your individual hair needs we may advise you to have your extensions removed before this timeframe (such as but not exclusive to) if you have fine hair or we deem it appropriate to your unique hair needs.  We will assess your hair during your free checkup appointments and advise you on the maximum wear time before you should have them removed.  This is to ensure your natural hair stays as healthy as possible. Failure to act on our advice may lead to damage to your natural hair and we accept NO responsibility for the health of your natural hair if you fail to attend your free checkup appointments OR fail to have your extensions removed at the recommended time we state during your checkups. These time limits are in place to protect the health of your natural hair.  See our Advice >> Removals section for more details on why these stated timeframes are necessary.
